January Pick of the Month: Misty

Each time I see Misty she makes me smile. She has a happy-go-lucky personality and swirls around your legs for attention. If you are looking for a "fat cat" she is definitely for you. She could use more exercise and a diet in her new home. Her coat is easy to groom and she absolutely loves to be brushed. She's also a big fan of belly scratches and likes to lounge belly-side up in your lap.

It's fun to chat with her--she responds very well to "sweet talk" and will chirp back at you. She would make a great cat for a family since she is so easy going and tolerant of other animals. Misty is a very sweet and adorable kitty who deserves a good home. Please feel free to email me if you'd like more information about her!

Cottage 2 Crew

We have some wonderful female cats in Cottage 2 and they all deserve to go home! Jasmine specifically has been at the shelter for over 6 months and is very anxious to find her forever home. Please consider these lovely ladies!

Jasmine

Jasmine is extremely sweet and loving. She will hop right up in your lap for a snuggle and belly rub. She gets along great and has lived with many different cats at the shelter with no issues. She's been with us since kittenhood and has grown to be a beautiful and charming lady.

Abby

Abby is awesome! She is normally the first to jump in your lap in Cottage 2 and doesn't mind to share the space with Jasmine or Tiger Lily. If there is no space she likes to get near your shoulder and purr in your ear or rub her face against yours. She is very cute and has a nice golden hue and soft fur. She loves other cats and will clean them. Her playmate Joey found his home a few weeks ago, but she is still waiting patiently.

Tiger Lily

Tiger Lily is absolutely adorable and precious! When she came to the shelter she was on the skinny side. Now she has rounded out a bit and has a very bright personality. She is a good mix of snuggly and playful. She likes other cats, chasing toys, belly rubs, and being held. She truly doesn't ask for much and is full of love!

The Cat Prescription

October has started as a high stress month and everyone is worried about the economy. Kitties are here to help! Studies have shown that animal companionship can help reduce stress (you can read more here and here).

We have some amazing cats at the APS that are also stressed and ready to find a companion. Cats are surprisingly self-sufficient and do not require as much attention or training as dogs. They are perfectly content with a good nap spot (they sleep up to 15 hours per day), a clean litter box, fresh food & water, a view from the window (cat tv), and 20-60 minutes per day of human interaction/play time. They are just happy to be near you and easy to please. I hope you will consider some of these great cats during these stressful times:

Carmela (what a cutie..and so playful and loving. Gets along great with other kitties)
Alexa (My current favorite. So beautiful & soft, needs a home with no other cats)
Mr. Krumples (I love this guy! He's so laid back and a perfect gentleman)

In the sea of kittens there are a few awesome adult cats that need good homes too! Please stop by the shelter to visit with them. I've spent time with each of these cats so feel free to hit me with questions!

Belucci is a gorgeous gray & white tuxedo male. He is around two years old and 12lbs. He has an extremely sweet personality and will hide his face in your arm when he's feeling shy. He is very calm and will sit contently in your lap as long as you let him. He is declawed in the front and needs a safe environment where he can't get outside. He likes other cats and is looking for a gentle & loving family, even with kids. Belucci lives in Cat Room 2!

Gregory is a 2 year old seal point Siamese neutered male. He has striking blue eyes and a handsome coat. He was a bit nervous when he arrived at the shelter, but has blossomed into a loving and tolerant cat with a curious nature. He loves to roll around in your lap and purr contently. He is looking for a cozy home with plenty of cat beds (he is a champion napper). Gregory lives in Cat Room 2.

Charity is a a beautiful tortie female. This mom loves to cuddle. If you forget to pet her, she will remind you with a gentle nudge to your hand. She has a sweet purr and would make a wonderful lap cat. She's on the skinny side right now but is sure to fatten up. As of yesterday she is finished nursing her precious kittens. She was so sweet with the kittens, but seems relieved to get some peace away from them. Charity (and her kittens) live in Cat Room 2.

Summer is breeding season for cats and the APS has an army of kittens available for adoption. They are so much fun to play with and I hope we can find homes for many of them. Here are a few of my favorites this week:

Drew is a 3 month old domestic medium hair black & white tuxedo male. He is a handsome boy with a soft coat and beautiful green eyes. He enjoys cuddling and will nuzzle your nose. When around other cats he is playful and outgoing. He enjoys curling up with his playmate Deann. Drew lives in Cat Room 2.

Alma is a 4 month old domestic short hair dilute tortie female. She is very loving and responds well to "sweet talk". She is a cute kitten with a round tummy and loves to relax in your lap. Even though she is tiny she has a big meow and loves to talk. Alma lives in Cat Room 2.

If you'd like to hear more about the kittens please do not hesitate to email me or drop by the shelter during business hours. We get new kittens almost everyday and currently have every color of the rainbow :-)

Smokey is soooooo soft!

Smokey is my new favorite. He is a one year old medium haired gray tabby. I spent a lot of time with him yesterday and he was soaking up all of the love, melting in my arms. Not only is he super soft, but he's also incredibly sweet natured and loving. He enjoys a good brushing and loves to nuzzle in your neck. He gets along well with other cats and even likes kids.

Ray is a 5 month old short hair brown & white tabby male. He's full of energy and loves to play with string toys! Ray can't wait to find his human family.

The Lovable Gir

Gir is one of my favorite cats at the shelter. She's a 10 month old black/white tuxedo and a tiny gal. She often overlooked and very needy for attention since her playmates have been adopted. Her purr is adorable and she loves a good brushing while lounging in your lap. She's content to stay in your lap as long as you will let her. It'll make you melt when she nuzzles into the crook of your neck and gets a "sleepy face".

Hey party people!

I'm Cally a one year old calico/tabby mix with the brightest personality of the bunch. I'm normally the first gal to get your attention with a big MEOW if you walk by my kitty house. It's boring at the shelter and I'm ready to find a home full of attention and affection. I love to be held and brushed and will sit happily to soak up attention as long as it's offered. It would be great to find a home with plenty of room to run around and a warm spot to nap. I don't mind other animals-- even dogs! What's not to like? Go ahead and give into the powers of my cute smirk and take me home.

Prince is having a slumber party!

I've decided to foster a cat and Prince is the lucky guy! He'll be coming home with me in early July so I can help him find his forever family. He's been at the shelter since March with no luck getting adopted. He's a big beautiful tabby that has been overlooked in a sea of other available tabbys but we aren't giving up. I chose Prince because of his laid-back attitude and ability to bond easily with other cats (I have three of my own). He loves to be cuddled and when content will "make biscuits" and give you kisses. He'll be a regular feature here until he's adopted. I'm looking forward to having him in our home and I'm sure my cats will appreciate another playmate. Tucker: sweetheart of the cottage

Hello! My name is Tucker and I'm an available sweetie looking for a fun and loving home. I'm a gray and white tabby with the most adorable stripes on my face and white mitten paws. I've grown up to be a big fellow and greatly appreciate tummy rubs. I spend my days playing with my cottage mates, Sam, Prince, and Harley. We have a fun time, but I'm ready to find my forever family. I would do great in a home with other cats but wouldn't mind being the center of your attention either. Can you believe I came to the shelter as a stray? I've blossomed into a social and loving kitty. I also love a good conversation--my meows and chirps will make you melt. Please stop by and visit me. Mia the little creamsicle

I'm Mia a 1-year-old domestic medium-hair orange tabby female. As you can tell, I'm very beautiful and soft. I love to be brushed and will roll over on my tummy to make sure you don't miss a spot. The folks at the shelter are so kind and told me I'm also extremely sociable and sweet. It's true! As the cherry on top, I have a lot of love to give as long as you'll love me too.

The Volunteer Coordinator office is a busy place, but I pitch in by keeping them company while they work away. I tend to get along with other cats at the shelter, but prefer to be social with humans the most. I see a future of keeping your lap warm while you watch TV and I promise not too demand too many cat treats. I love kids, but dogs aren't my favorite. ..they don't have any catnip toys to share. Most of all I can't wait to find my forever home.
